Produced by October Films this intimate and powerful documentary follows the Ferdinand family, as Rio’s fiancée Kate Wright integrates into the family and becomes a step-mum to Rio’s three children, Lorenz, Tate and Tia.
In the months leading up to their wedding, the documentary explores the emotionally complicated dilemmas this newly formed family unit face following Rio’s wife Rebecca’s passing in 2015. For 27 year old Kate, taking on not only the role as girlfriend and fiancée to Rio, but also ‘mum’ to three children still grieving over the death of their mother Rebecca in 2015 and grandmother Janet two years later, a set of unique, emotionally complicated challenges emerge.
Envy Colourist – Andrew Cloke said:
“I was tasked with creating a traditionally filmic aesthetic for the documentary. I achieved the desired look in the grade through the application of film grain, glow and subsequently the use of a separate texture pass on each shot. Additionally to provide a further unified and congruent look I used baselight’s texture blend and equaliser plug ins; this enabled me to reduce the digital feel and appearance of the doc and provide a further polished finish.
To enhance the visual experience I also performed other subtleties such as sky replacements. Here I substituted overcast and sombre looking views for more vibrant scenery. Additionally to providing seamless still integration and cast the illusion of sky drift in these shots, I altered the textures and performed key framing on the clouds.
The workflow for the this project was completed using an Academy Colour Encoding System (ACES) colour space.”
