Thirteen years after his first encounter Louis Theroux heads back to the Westboro Baptist Church, one of America’s most notorious hate groups, infamous for their hate speech against LGBTQ+ people, Muslims, Jews, and more. Louis investigates how the group are coping since death of church founder - Fred Phelps, in 2014 & how the churches newest members are integrating.
ENVY Colourist Andrew Cloke said: “For this project I used an Academy Colour Encoding System (ACES) colour space for majority of the workflow.
The documentary uses newly shot footage integrated with archive to build a complete and comprehensive picture of Louis’s visits and the Westboro Baptist Church. The objective was to create a filmic look and to maintain a consistent thread throughout; it was important for us to maintain the integrity of the archive footage while inter-cutting it seamlessly with the new film. To achieve this I built a custom LUT to restrict the colour palette, enabling me to ensure a consistent and congruent grade throughout while preventing over stylisation.”
